President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on amnesty of persons sentenced to imprisonment in honor of celebrating the Day of Revival, Unity and Poetry of Makhtumkuli Fragi. The text of the decree and the list of amnestied persons were published in the central press of Turkmenistan.
In accordance with the document, 1671 convicts serving the principal punishment, as well as an additional penalty of living in restricted areas, including foreign nationals, will released from prison, the Turkmenistan.ru correspondent reports quoting the press service of the head of state.
"The regular pardoning of convicts is a tribute to the original humanistic traditions of the nation that lay in the basis of the Constitution," Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said at a government meeting yesterday. The president instructed the heads of law enforcement agencies to "take all measures to ensure that all pardoned get home before the holiday."
