DUSHANBE, December 14, Asia-Plus - Tajikistan has won its second gold of Doha 2006 and it came in the boxing ring.
In the men’s light heavy – 81 kg final bout, Tajik athlete Jahon Qurbonov won Korea’s Song Hak Sung with a high quality performance, which saw him win 30-15, according to the Committee for Youth, Sports and Tourism.
Jahon started as favorite after shocking world champion Yerdos Janabergenov from Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals and stopping his semifinal opponent, Iranian Mehdi Ghurbani, by round three.
We will recall that the first gold was claimed for Tajikistan by hummer thrower Dilshod Nazarov. Besides, Tajikistan also has two bronze medals won by Rasul Boqiyev (judo) and Shokirjon Rajabov (taekwon-do).
According to an official website of the 15 th Asian Games, www.doha-2006.com , Tajikistan with four medals (two gold and two bronze) is ranked 28th among 37 countries that won at least one medal in the games. In all, more than 40 countries have taken part in the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar.
