DUSHANBE, February 17, 2009, Asia-Plus -- An assembly of Tajikistan’s National Olympic Committee (NOC) to hear reports and elect new officials that was held in Dushanbe on February 16 elected the Tajik head of state Emomali Rahmon as NOC president for the period of 2009-2012.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Anvar Bobojonov, the head of the NOC sports and propaganda department, said that they hoped that election of the head of state as the NOC president would promote further development of sports and Olympic Movement in the country.
The assembly also elected new members of the NOC executive committee comprising 11 persons. The executive committee members include vice-president, secretary general, and executive director of the NOC, as well as heads of Tajikistan’s federations judo, Roman-Greek and free-style wrestling, teakwon-do (WTF), athletics, and archery.
