DUSHANBE , March 16, Asia-Plus - Jan Kubic, EU special representative for Central Asia , met with senior representatives from Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA) in Dushanbe on March 15. 

Their talks focused on a progress of implementation of the European Union programs in the area of fighting drug trafficking in Tajikistan , according to information from the DCA.

The DCA source says Jan Kubic highly appraised achievements of the Agency in the fight against drug trafficking and noted that DCA had a good reputation in many countries of the European Union.  

The DCA director Rustam Nazarov, for his part, briefed the EU envoy on the drug situation in Tajikistan and the region as whole.  He noted that Tajikistan ’s law enforcement agencies intercepted 4,850 kilograms of drugs last year.   

On the successful interaction between the DCA and the Afghan special services in combating drug trafficking, Tajik drug control chief said that last year’s joint operations led to seizure of more than 500 kilograms of drugs.  He stressed that of this amount, more than 400 kilograms had been seized due to operational information from the Agency.  

“We have yielded good results this year as well,” said the Tajik drug control kingpin, “Over the first two months of the year alone, two joint operations by the Agency and Afghan police have led to seizure of more than 100 kilograms of drugs.”
