DUSHANBE , April 12, Asia-Plus - 20 passenger carriages have arrived in Tajikistan after major repairs at Tashkent carriage-repairing works.

Tohir Khojayev, head of the passenger conveyance department of the Tajik Railways, has told Asia-Plus that the repaired carriages may serve 28 other years.  “To purchase new carriages from Russia we need from US$800,000 to US$1 million while for repairing these twenty carriages we have spent much fewer,” Khojayev said, noting that the repaired carriages meet all international standards and will run on the railway line from Dushanbe to Moscow.

Asked about increase in prices of train fares, the Tajik Railways official said that it depended not on the Tajik Railways but on neighboring countries through which Tajik trains were going.   “We plan to introduce a flexible rate of train fares,” said Khojayev, “the train fare prices will depend on quantity of passenger transportation.”
