DUSAHNBE, May 25, Asia-Plus -- The U.S. “AES Corporation” Company intends to take part in the construction of a number of hydropower plants in Tajikistan.

Paul Hanrahan, “ASE Corporation” President and Chief Executive Officer, told journalists this in Dushanbe yesterday following his meeting with President Rahmonov.

According to him, in the course of the talks they discussed a number of investment projects in the energy sector, namely; the construction of the power-transmission line from Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as the construction of new hydropower plants in Tajikistan.

“The possibility of participation of our company in the implementation of these projects will be known after the conduct of feasibility studies,” Mr. Hanrahan said, adding that negotiations with representatives from Tajikistan’s ministry of energy and “Barqi Tojik” (Tajik electric system) energy holding would continue.

These negotiations are supposed to result in signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the construction of the power-transmission from the “Tojikazot” plant to the Afghan border.

The “Barqi Tojik” open joint-stock holding company head Sharifkhon Samiyev told journalists that a total length of that power-transmission line would be 90 kilometers.  According to him, Tajikistan’s share in the construction of the power-transmission line would amount to 51 percent.
