DUSHANBE, August 22, Asia-Plus -- Tajikistan’s Drug Control Agency (DCA) hosts the next session of the Coordinating Committee for Drug Abuse Prevention on August 23.
According to information from the DCA, the session is aiming to consider issues related to coordination of actions to prevent spread of drug addiction in Tajikistan and work out a plan of actions covering the period till the end of this year. Participants at the meeting also will assess activity of some committees and organizations on implementation of tasks on prevention of drug addiction.
The source says the Coordinating Council’s meeting participants include representatives from the government, president’s executive office, ministries of culture, finance, healthcare, justice, as well as committees on family and women’s affairs, religious affairs, TV and radio-broadcasting, and international organizations active in Tajikistan.
The Coordinating Committee for Drug Abuse Prevention was established following president’s edict of April 2, 2004.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, some 8,000 drug users have been registered in the republic; the majority of the are heroin users.
