DUSHANBE, August 28, Asia-Plus -- The DPT managing board has not recognized the results of an extraordinary congress convoked by the initiative group led by Masoud Sobirov.
The DPT board hosted a news conference today to express its position on the yesterday’s extraordinary congress held by the “Vatan” faction.
Mr. Jumaboy Niyozov, the first deputy head of the DPT also the head of the DPT organization for Sughd, told the news conference that the yesterday’s so-called extraordinary congress of the party was held with violation of a number of provisions of the DPT rules. “Under the party rules an extraordinary congress is convoked only by decision of the party board,” Mr. Niyozov said.
He also noted that he attended the congress only for one purpose – to state unlawfulness of the event. “After making this statement I left the meeting,” said Jumaboy Niyozov, “Some a half of those present in the hall also left the meeting demonstrating non-recognition of this group.”
“What is ongoing today in our ranks could be called incandescence of passions on political arena as presidential election nears,” Mr. Niyozov stated, suggesting that certain forces might be behind this split in the DPT ranks.
In the meantime, some local experts hold that at present practically all the political parties functioning in the country are experiencing certain difficulties connected with the present situation. According to them, political struggle takes new turn compared to the Nineties, which were characterized by protest demonstrations and meetings.
