DUSAHNBE, September 27, Asia-Plus - State and prospects of further expansion of bilateral Tajik-U.S. cooperation figured prominently in U.S. Ambassador to Tajikistan Tracey Ann Jacobson’s discussions with Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, the head of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) in Dushanbe on September 26.
Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, said that during the meeting Ubaidulloyev spoke for establishment of cooperation between the Majlisi Milli and the U.S. Senate and noted that it is of great importance for Tajik lawmakers to familiarize themselves with activity of their U.S. colleagues. Tajikistan’s parliament speaker also asked to consider the possibility of increasing a quota for Tajik students to study in the United States.
He also noted that more funds are needed to improve the study of English and modern information technologies in Tajikistan, according to Saidov.
For her par, Jacobson noted that the U.S. Embassy in Dushanbe will thoroughly promote expansion of the study of English in Tajikistan, using for this relevant structures, in particular the Peace Corps, the aide to the Tajik parliament speaker said. “American diplomat noted that experience of work of Tajik bicameral parliament and a life membership of each former president of the Majlisi Milli deserve serious attention and study,” Saidov said.
