DUSHANBE, October 12, Asia-Plus - A large amount of drugs has been intercepted in northern Tajikistan.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), officers from the MoI department for combating drug trafficking (drug police) Wednesday yesterday  seized some 70 kilograms of drugs, including five kilograms of heroin and 65 kilograms, of opium in the northern district of Panjakent.  The drugs were hidden in car that arrived in the district from Dushanbe.  The driver and his passenger were arrested on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing.  

In January-September 2006, Tajik lawn enforcement agencies and special services have seized more than 4,000 kilograms of drugs, with a half of them being heroin.
