DUSHANBE, February 28, Asia-Plus - A roundtable meeting entitled “Problems and Prospects of Management of Labor Migration in Tajikistan and Participation of IOM in This Process” was held in Dushanbe on February 28.
The meeting was staged by President’s Executive Office and the Mission of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Tajikistan.
The meeting participants included representatives from president’s office, ministry of labor and social security, interior ministry’s migration department, foreign ministry as well as IOM Dushanbe office, Tajik branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF) and Tajik national air carrier.
The meeting considered issues related to a new government structure dealing with regulation of labor migration in Tajikistan. During the meeting the IOM Mission in Tajikistan presented report on its activity in this area: its achievements and plans for future.
The main objective of the meeting was to inform the public about the new government body dealing with issues of management of external labor migration that was opened at the interior ministry, prospects of further expansion of cooperation between it and non-government and international organizations.
The meeting also touched upon issues related to the establishment of the agency for employment, social security of the population and migration.
Anvar Boboyev, the head of the State Migration Service of the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that the mentioned agency is expected to perform functions currently carried out by the employment service, state migration service and other agencies of the ministry. “It will also organize training courses on raising legal awareness, the English and Russian languages and raising legal migration awareness,” Boboyev said, adding that 15 training centers will operate at the Agency.
