DUSHANBE, May 3, Asia-Plus - Customs officers have stopped attempts by two drug couriers to transport heroin to the Russian Federation, Asia-Plus has learned at press service of Tajikistan’s Customs Service.
Wednesday night, when inspecting passengers on the Dushanbe-Moscow flight customs officers stopped attempts by two residents of the Khatlon province -- the 39-year-old Daler Sharipov and the 35-year-old Gulkhumor Rahmonova -- to internally smuggle narcotics into Moscow.
“Sharipov attempted to conceal 60 containers with heroin in his stomach and Rahmonova attempted to conceal 21 containers with heroin in her stomach,” the source said.
Criminal proceedings have been instituted against them and an investigation is under way.
According to the Customs Service, nine attempts of transporting narcotics by plane have been registered in the country since the beginning of the year. In all, 4,194 kilograms of drugs have been confiscated from the drug couriers.
