DUSHANBE, July 7, Asia-Plus — Number of cellular communications users in Tajikistan will exceed 1.5 people soon, according to the Ministry Transport and Communications (MoTC).
The source at a MoTC said that 992,000 cellular communications users have been registered in the country as January 1, 2007. According to him, compared to the previous years, a considerable rise in the number of cellular users has been to be observed in the country this year. The source links it to the fact that cellular communications has become more available and the number of companies providing cellular communications services has increased.
The source added that by January 2000, the number of cellular communications users in Tajikistan had not been more than 1,000 people. “The number of cellular communications users has increased in the country mainly over the past six-five years,” the source said.
According to the MoTC, ten cellular operators providing services in different standards now function in Tajikistan: MLT; Babilon-M; Indigo-Tajikistan; Indigo-Somoncom; Beeline; M. Teco; Telecom Inc (Skytel); TK Mobile; Tajik Telecom and Telecomm Technology. .
