DUSHANBE, August 25, Asia-Plus — Tajik energy delegation led by Abdullo Qurbonov, the head of the energy policy department of the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI), has negotiated with Uzbek colleagues in Tashkent issues related to usage of water and energy resource, in particular in the basin of the trans-border Syrdarya River, Asia-Plus has learned from the source at a MoEI.
Many Tajik experts link these negotiations to a statement delivered by Uzbek President Islam Karimov at the last summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Kyrgyz capital on August 16.
Addressing the summit, Uzbek president claimed that some countries of the region want to use the trans-border river only in their own interest and that decision on using of waters of these rivers as well as constructing hydropower plants should take into account interests of other states.
