DUSHANBE, September 21, Asia-Plus — Issues related to development of public health education in Tajikistan were major topics of a roundtable meeting that was held in Dushanbe yesterday.

The meeting, initiated by the Tajik Branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF), focused on the results of implementation of the project of establishment of School of Public Health (SPH) in Tajikistan.  

The meeting participants included representatives from the Ministry of Health (MoH), OSI/AF Tajik Branch, World Health Organization’s (WHO) Office in Dushanbe, Tajik Medical University, as well as representatives from international organizations and specialists in the field of public health. 

 The meeting participants summed up the results of the project and discuss further moves in this direction.  

The meeting also considered  issues related to development of higher educational education in the field in public health, and role of SPH in health policy of different countries.

One of the main objectives of the School of Public Health project is establishment of the Public Health Faculty at Tajik State Medical University.  

The project for establishment of the School of Public Health in Tajikistan was initiated and supported by the OSI/AF Tajik Branch in 2003 under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on cooperation between the MoH and the OSI/AF Tajik Branch.
