DUSHANBE, February 12, Asia-Plus -- A joint statement signed by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and his Iranian counterpart, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in Tehran, in particular, said that Tajikistan and Iran have confirmed respect for territorial integrity and non-interference in internal affairs of each other, according to Tajik presidential press service.
Both sides expressed readiness to actively cooperate within international organizations such as the United Nations and its agencies, Organization of Economic Cooperation (ECO), and others.
Tajikistan and Iran underlined the significance of deliverance of the planet from nuclear weapons and spoke for peaceful use of nuclear power.
Emphasizing the importance of expansion of cooperation of member nations of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) with counties having an observer status at the Organization, the Tajik side confirmed its readiness to discuss this issue with other member nations of SCO and Iran could gradually become full member of the Organization, the presidential press service said.
The presidents also instructed Tajik-Iranian commission for trade and economic cooperation to prepare a joint program for Tajik-Iranian bilateral cooperation in 209-2015.
The sides also pointed to the necessity of increase in production of oil coke at one of Iranian oilfields due to investments from Tajik aluminum group and increase in aluminum supplies to Tajikistan for Tajik aluminum smelter.
The Iranian side noted that it would facilitate construction of warehouse for aluminum supplies at Bender Abbas port.
To increase bilateral goods turnover Tajikistan and Iran have confirmed their intention to attract investments of other interested sides in increase of traffic capacity of the Serakhs railway.
In the meantime, President Emomali Rahmon yesterday sent a message to his Iranian counterpart, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, to congratulate on the occasion of 29th anniversary of Islamic revolution victory.
In his message, the Tajik president, in particular, noted that expansion of friendly ties between Tajikistan and Iran would be an important factor for establishment of stability and security in the region as well as securing high interests of the two countries.
