DUSHANBE, April 10, Asia-Plus  - The government has already endorsed the issue of establishing a national single center for testing university/college entrants, Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov remarked at a press conference in Dushanbe on April 10.

According to him, four universities in the country will have accepted students this year in accordance with a new testing system.  Beginning from the next year, all universities will accept students through the national singe center for testing university/college entrants, the minister said.

Commenting on the work of the center, Rahmonov noted that entrants will take tests “through computers that will count grades necessary to enter one or another university or college.” “This practice has already been used in many CIS states, including the Central Asian countries, and I hope it will yield good results in Tajikistan as well,” the minister said.

Rahmonov noted that the establishment of such center requires considerable expenses and the ministry is currently negotiating the financial support issue with international organizations.

The minister further added that more than 79,000 students are finishing general schools this year, while the country’s universities will accept only up to 27,000 students.
