DUSHANBE, May 7, Asia-Plus -- International two-day conference on use of information technologies (IT) in university teaching and developing higher education in Tajikistan ended in Dushanbe yesterday, according to the Ministry of Education (MoE).
The source at a MoE said that the conference formally titled “Raising Quality of Higher Education on the Basis of Use of Information Communications Technologies” had brought together researchers and specialists from Russia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. More than 100 participants at the conference worked in three sections.
“Assessment and study of achievements in raising quality and level of education in universities and sharing experience and knowledge in IT training and staff development in universities were the main objectives of the conference,” the source said, noting that the conference was staged by the MoE and Tajik National University.
Speaking at the conference, Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov named it “one of the most important ways to raise quality of education in the country through use of IT.”
He also noted that Tajikistan is behind European countries in use of IT in universities. “Teachers with higher educational institutions in Tajikistan, except IT and math teachers, are not properly aware of information technologies and it is necessary to remove these shortcomings and train them,” Rahmonov said.
The minister also proposed to create a common information network among universities to promote development of exchange of experiences.
