DUSHANBE, May 8, Asia-Plus  -- In Tajikistan, gross domestic product (GDP) is expected to rise 5-6 percent this year and the country will rank at the bottom of the CIS list in terms of GDP growth, according to the CIS Interstate Committee.   

In the meantime, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) expects Tajikistan’s GDP to rise 4.1 percent, and according to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Tajikistan’s GDP will rise 8 percent this year.

Specialists from the Tajik Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT) hold that the country’s gross domestic product will rise 7 percent in the year to December 31, 2008. 

According to the Ministry of Finance (MoF), GDP rose 3.2 percent in three months to March 31, 2008, reaching 2.726 billion somonis.  

According to the CIS Committee for Statistics, among the CIS states, the highest GDP growth rate this year is expected in Azerbaijan – 16-18 percent.  In Armenia, GDP is supposed to rise 10 percent by the end of this year.  It will be followed by Belarus (8-8.5 percent) and Georgia (8 percent).  In Russia and Uzbekistan, gross domestic product is predicted to rise 7.5 percent, and in Kyrgyzstan 7 percent.
