DUSHANBE, May 8, Asia-Plus -- “I hope the study of demining experience of neighboring Afghanistan will allow reducing the number of mine victims in Tajikistan” Jonmahmad Rajabov, the head of the Tajik Mine Action Cell (TMAC), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
A group of TMAC specialists recently retuned from a trip to Afghanistan, where they had visited a number of provinces.
Rajabov noted that specialists from the Afghan mine action center have good experience not only in raising awareness of mines and unexploded ordnance but also in defusing unexploded landmines.
“Two years ago, 12 mine detecting dogs underwent training in Afghanistan, which has a special demining center for dogs due to its huge problem with mines,” the TMAC director said, noting that mine detection dogs have a vital role to play in the integral approach to mine detection.
He expressed hope that arrive of Afghan demining specialists in Tajikistan could promote expansion of cooperation between the two countries in tackling mine problems.
