DUSHANBE, May 15, Asia-Plus  -- A roundtable meeting to discuss taxation issues will be held at the Kayon Hotel in Dushanbe on May 21.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Matlouba Uljaboyeva, the chairperson of the National Association of Small and Medium Businesses of Tajikistan (Namsbt), said the meeting is staged by Namsbt under financial and technical support of the USAID-sponsored Business Environment Improvement (BEI) Project, which is being implemented by PRAGMA Corporation in cooperation with Tajikistan’s State Committee for Investments and Management of State-owned Property.

The meeting aims to consider issues related to revealing obstacles on the way of development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and working out recommendations for simplifying tax policy and administration.   According to her, financial-economic review of the present Tajikistan’s tax code will be presented during the meeting.

“Simplification of tax policy and administration is one of important conditions for development of entrepreneurship and improvement of business environment and investment climate in the country,” said Uljaboyeva.  “Simplification of the tax administration and reduction of tax burden are among the main ways to attract investments and promote development of economy and expansion of regional cooperation.”

Similar roundtable meetings were held in Khatlon and Sughd provinces last month, the Namsbt chairperson said.
