DUSHANBE, May 20, Asia-Plus  -- A three-day meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Forum opened in Beijing, China on May 19.   

According to the Tajik Embassy in Beijing, the meeting is discussing state and prospects of further development of the organization, as well as issues related to expansion of economic and cultural cooperation among its member nations.   

Speaking at the meeting, Tajik Ambassador to China, Mr. Rashid Alimov, noted that the SCO had demonstrated its viability and stability.  According to him, the organization is capable to adequately address challenges and threats of the 21st century.   

The SCO is an efficient instrument of many-sided interaction, promoting strengthening of confidence and mutual understanding, seeking mutually acceptable solutions to the problems of regional security and co-development.  

“Efforts of leaders and governments of member nations of the organization are aimed at improving level of social protection of people, raising their education and cultural level,” Tajik diplomat said.     

Established in Moscow in 2006, the SCO Forum plays a major role in scientific research. This is a multilateral public consultative and expert mechanism intended to promote interaction between research and political analytical centers of SCO member countries.
