DUSHANBE, May 29, Asia-Plus  -- Measures to improve organization of international carriages are being discussed at the 48th session of the council of the CIS railway administrations that opened in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan today.  

Nematullo Nazarov, the head of the international ties department within the Tajik Railways, told Asia-Plus that Tajikistan is represented at the meeting by a delegation led by the Tajik Railways head Amonullo Hukumataullo.    

According to him, the session is also considering issues related to implementation of decision taken at the previous session as well as the train traffic schedule and plans of formation of cargo trains in international communication for 2008-2009.  

At present Tajik Railways offers three routes to the Russian Federation (Dushanbe-Moscow, Kulob-Moscow, Khujand-Saratov) and four domestic routes (Dushanbe-Konibodom, Qurghon Teppa-Konibodom, Dushanbe-Pakhtaobod and Qurghon Teppa-Kulob).

 The total length of rails in Tajikistan is 950 kilometers; of that, 680 kilometers are the main railways.  At present there are 31 railway stations in the republic. 

Established in 1992, the council of the CIS railway administrations is dedicated to coordinate work of rail transport at international level, promote development of transport-economic cooperation among the CIS states, and working out necessary documents.
