DUSHANBE, November 20, 2008, Asia-Plus  -- Deputy head of Tajik Railways, Vladimir Sobkalov heading Tajik delegation is attending the 49th two-day session of the CIS railways Council that opened in Kiev, Ukraine today.   

The source at Tajik Railways said that the session has been discussing a broad range of issues related to cooperation between the CIS states in the field of rail transportation.  

The meeting participants, in particular, are summing up the results of work carried out by the CIS railways Council over the first nine months of this year and considering rail schedule for 2009-2010, the results of inventory of cargo carriages, etc.  

The CIS Railways Council was established in 1992, with an aim to exploit wagons of the common pool of the railways, coordination of the normative acts and agreements on freight and passenger transport between the countries using a system of mutual settling of account, etc.  Head Office of the Council is situated in Moscow.

Heads of railways administrations of Baltic states, Finland and Bulgaria have the status of affiliated members or observers in the CIS Railways Council.
