DUSHANBE, March 15, 2010, Asia-Plus -- The first session of the Dushanbe council (Majlis) of the fourth convocation took place in the Tajik capital today.
The Dushanbe council has 70 seats and speaking at the meeting, Husnoro Mirzoyeva, the chairwoman of the Dushanbe city electoral commission, noted that 67 representatives of the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT), one representative of the Communist Party (CPT) and two unaffiliated persons were elected to the city council on February 28.
The session considered a number of organizational issues. Thus, President’s son Rustam Emomali, who represents the capital’s Ismoili Somoni district in Dushanbe’s city council, was elected member of the council committee for youth, sports and tourism affairs.
Besides, the council nominated Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev as candidate for the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament).
We will recall that elections to the Majlisi Milli are scheduled for March 25, 2010 and Gorno Badakhshan, regions, Dushanbe, and cities and districts subordinate to the centre have an equal number of representatives in the Majlisi Milli (five each).
