DUSHANBE, September 23, 2010, Asia-Plus – The Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) has claimed responsibility for recent attack on a military convoy in Kamarob Gorge in Rasht district, Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service reports referring to received video address.
In the video address, the person who introduced himself as a spokesman for IMU Abdufattoh Ahmadi says that one member of IMU was killed during the attack on the convoy of the Ministry of Defense. He also claims that one private soldier was captured.
According to him, the attack was response to Tajik government’s policy that “shut down a thousand of mosques in the country arrests Muslims without any reason and prohibits women from wearing Muslim clothes.”
In the video address, IMU demands a stop for that policy, “otherwise terrorist acts will continue.”
According to the video address, Tajikistan’s cooperation with the United States and NATO that are carrying out operations in Afghanistan also displeases IMU.
We will recall that Tajik authorities blamed former opposition commanders Mullo Abdullo, Mirzokhouja Ahmadov and Alovuddin Davlatov for the Rasht attack.
