DUSHANBE, December 9, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Aslov yesterday met in Geneva with Mr. Michael Moller, Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG).
According to the Tajik MFA information department, Tajik foreign minister underlined the United Nations’ contribution to maintenance of international peace and security and expressed hope that the United Nations will take necessary measures to promote issues related to disarmament and encouragement of respect for human rights.
During the meeting, Aslov and Moller reportedly also exchanged views on the current situation in Afghanistan and cooperation between Tajikistan and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
Established on March 28, 2002 at the request of the Government of Afghanistan, UNAMA is a political UN mission to assist Afghanistan in laying the foundations for sustainable peace and development.
The United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG) is the second-largest of the four major office sites of the United Nations (second to the United Nations Headquarters in New York City).
