DUSHANBE, April 22, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Tajik central bank head says the Libya unrest is one reasons for high inflation in Tajikistan.
Unrest in Libya has caused rise in the international oil prices, while oil is a major price component for products in Tajikistan, Sharif Rahimzoda, chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on April 21.
According to him, actual inflation stood at 4.5 percent in January-March this year, which is 2.9 percent higher than in the same period last year. “In the meantime, indigenous inflation, without regard for external factors, stood at 1.3 percent over the same three-moth period,” Rahimzoda said.
The central bank head stressed that at present it is very difficult to predict inflation for the end of this year.
Rahimzoda also advised to stock up basic food products because their prices may jump at any moment.
