DUSHANBE, December 25, 2012, Asia-Plus  -- On Tuesday December 25, Tajik Railways was replenished with new 15 modern passenger carriages, Usmon Qalandarov, deputy director of Tajik state railroad company told Asia-Plus in an interview.   

According to him, the passenger carriages have been purchased from Ukraine.  Qalandarov  says 100 cargo cars are en route to Tajikistan.  “They will arrive in Dushanbe within the next few days,” Tajik Railways official noted.

“Over the past year, we have purchased 306 cargo cars, 15 passnger carriages and four rail locomotives,” Qalandarov added

Tajikistan’s rolling-stock now includes more 2,119 cargo cars, 439 passenger carriages and 59 diesel locomotives.

The total length of rails in Tajikistan is reportedly more than 950 kilometers; of that, 680 kilometers are the main railways.  At present Tajik Railways offers three routes to the Russian Federation (Dushanbe-Moscow, Kulob-Moscow, and Khujand-Saratov) and two domestic routes (Dushanbe-Konibodom and Dushanbe-Pakhtaobod).
