DUSHANBE, July 8, 2015, Asia-Plus -- Tajik experts predict rise in gasoline prices in the country.
The price hike will result from the rising cost of petroleum products in Russia, which provides the bulk of Tajikistan’s fuel imports.
Russian media outlets report that gasoline prices have increased in the Russian Federation over the past week.
Over the period from June 28 to July 5, the price of one liter of 95-octane gasoline has reportedly increased in Russia on average by 21 kopeks and the price one liter of of 92-octane gasoline has increased in Russia on average by 19 kopeks.
Tajik experts note that increasing cost of oil products in the Russian Federation will affect gasoline prices in Tajikistan as Russia now accounts for up to 90 percent of Tajikistan’s fuel imports.
According to the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan, Tajikistan has imported 207,000 tons oil products, including nearly 100,000 tons of gasoline, over the first four months of this year. Russia has reportedly accounted for 85 percent of oil products delivered to Tajikistan voer the report period.
In Dushanbe, current prices are 5.50 somoni for one liter of 95-octane gasoline and 5.20 somoni for one liter of 92-octane gasoline.
