The Government of Germany will provide additional grant of 10 million euros for construction of the Sebzor hydropower plant in Roshtqala district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), says the press center of the Ministry of economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan (MoEDT).
The document on the additional financing was inked in Dushanbe on December 12 by Mr. Zavqi Zavqizoda, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan, Ms. Veronica Garcia del Arco, KfW Development Bank Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, Mr. Andreas Schneider, Director of the KfW Development Bank Regional Office for Central Asia, and Mr. Amrikhon Raimov, Director General of Pamir Energy Company.
The MoEDT press center says that to-date, US$84 million have been provided in grants for construction of the Sebzor hydropower plant. These funds have reportedly been provided the European Union, the Government of Germany, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and the World Bank.
The 11MW Sebzor hydropower plant construction project is a development project of Tajikistan implemented by Pamir Energy Company with financial support from the European Union and the Government of Germany through German Bank KfW.
The hydropower plant is being built in the Sebzor area of the Mirsaid Mirshakar jamoat, some 15 kilometers of GBAO’s capital, Khorog. A total cost of the project is reportedly 36.8 million U.S. dollars.
The Sebzor project is being implemented jointly with the Government of Tajikistan under financial and technical support from the European Union and the German Government through German Bank KFW. The project showcases the benefits sustainable hydropower can bring to both a country and its people, reconciling the need to meet energy demand and ensure net-positive outcomes for surrounding communities and ecosystems.
