Over 1 million carp, silver carp ad white amur fry have been released into the Nurek Reservoir as part of an environmental initiative organized by the Committee for Environmental Protection under the Government of Tajikistan.

According to a statement from the Committee’s press service, the goal of the initiative is to restore and increase the fish resources in the reservoir. These efforts not only have ecological significance for the preservation of fish stocks but also contribute to improving the country’s food security.

The campaign highlights the importance of protecting natural resources and ensuring the sustainable development of the country’s fisheries.

“Protecting fish resources is a top priority of Tajikistan’s national environmental policy,” the Committee emphasized. In this regard, the Committee plans to continue its fish stocking programs in other reservoirs in Khatlon province, including the Boighozi and Sarband reservoirs.

Experts noted that, given the impacts of climate change, such measures will help maintain the hydro-biological balance and the resilience of biological diversity in natural water bodies.

The environmental campaign organized by the Committee for Environmental Protection is aimed at creating sustainable ecological conditions in water bodies and improving the region’s fishing resources.
