DUSHANBE, May 10, Asia-Plus -- Residents of the flooding-threatened village of Sarichashma in the Vahdat district have been evacuated to safe place, according to the committee for emergency situations (CES).
The source at a CES said that the move had stemmed from an increase in the water level in the Kofarnihon River caused by torrential rain on May 8. “The same day, residents of the village were evacuated to safe place,” the source said, adding that the emergency service specialists are currently in the site to closely monitor the situation.
According to him, heavy rainfalls on May 7 caused serious damage to the village of Shahtakiyon in the Fayzobod district, affecting agricultural lands there.
We will recall that natural disasters that hit Tajikistan over the first three months of the year have caused some 8.40 million somonis’ worth of damage to the country’s economy.
