DUSHANBE, October 25, Asia-Plus -- 76 natural disasters reported in Tajikistan in the first three quarters of this year have left 36 dead and caused 69 million somonis’ worth of damage to the country’s economy, Mahmadtohir Zokirov, Chairman of the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES) announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 25.
According to him, more than 5,700 residential buildings have been affected by natural disasters; of them, 764 houses have been destroyed completely.
Besides, the disasters have damaged 118 schools, 26 medical facilities, 432 kilometers of roads, 78 bridges, 111 kilometers of the power-transmission lines, 79 kilometers of the communications lines, and 13,500 hectares of farmland in the country over the report period, the CES head said.
