QURGHON TEPPA, April 17, Asia-Plus -- Recent heavy rainfalls have caused the Yovonsou River in Khatlon’s Jomi district to burst its banks.
The Jomi district head Umedjon Zoirov told Asia-Plus today afternoon that flooding has damaged 13 residential buildings and some 50 hectares of areas under corn in the dehqan (peasant) farm Vahdat. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, according to him.
Special commission is currently work in the district to assess the actual volume of damage caused to the farming unit by the disaster.
“According to the preliminary data, the damage caused to the faming unit has amounted to 251,000 somonis,” Zoirov said, noting that local authorities plan to relocate families living in the flood-prone area.
