KHOROG, August 9, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Mudflow has caused serious damage to Murgab district in Gorno Badakhshan.
“A short torrential rain Saturday (August 7) afternoon caused a mudflow that affected 117 households in the district administrative center; four residential building were destroyed completely and four other houses have 75 percent damage and are also not suitable for living,” Karamali Shekhov, an officer from the GBAO emergency management agency, told Asia-Plus. No injured was reported, according to him.
The mudflow also damaged three drinking water wells as well as bazaar in the administrative center, Shekhov added.
Representatives from the GBAO emergency management agency are currently in Murgab to assess the actual volume of damage caused by the mudflow to the district.
