KHOROG/KHUJAND, August 23, 2010, Asia-Plus -- law enforcement agencies in Gorno Badakhshan have been put on alert following the escape of a group of prisoners from Dushanbe’s pretrial detention facility.
“The situation in the region does not cause concern,” said the GBAO police directorate chief Ramazon Ramazonov, “However, additional checkpoints of police have been put on the territory of Gorno Badakhshan along the highway from Dushanbe to Khorog via Tavildara district as the escapees reportedly went to Rasht Valley.”
No restrictions have been imposed on traffic along the Dushanbe-Khorog highway, the GBAO police chief added.
Police departments in cities and districts of the northern Sughd province have been put on alert as well.
The Sughd police directorate chief Rauf Yusufov says, “Local law enforcements agencies have been on alert since 4:00 am of Monday and security of strategic facilities in the area has been reinforced.”
