KHUJAND/DUSHANBE, August 24, 2010, Asia-Plus -- Torrential rain on August 23 caused a series of mudflows in Ayni district, Sughd province, according to the Sughd emergency management agency.
One of the mudflows has killed the 80-year-old woman from the village of Putkhin, Muyassar Boboyeva.
Heavy rainfalls also caused floods in the villages of Sangiston, Zosun, Tomin, Pokhud, Shevatki Poyon, and Rarz in the Ayni district. “Floods have completely destroyed six residential buildings and partially damaged 25-30 houses in the area,” said the source, “Besides, floods have damaged 6 hectares of farmland, 3 kilometers of roads, and destroyed 4 bridges. Besides, 40 head of cattle and 15 head of sheep and goats have been killed by floods.”
Torrential rain hit Rasht district in eastern Tajikistan on August 23 as well. According to the Committee of Emergency Situations and Civil Defense, floods caused by the Monday heavy rains caused damage to the villages of Bedak, Sangimalik, and Shul in the district.
Floods have damaged homestead lands, roads, water pipelines, and several bridges in the district. Besides, one residential building has been partially damaged by flooding, the source said.
