DUSHANBE, May 6, 2011, Asia-Plus -- Torrential rain on May 5 caused two fatal mudslides in Khatlon and Sughd provinces, according to the Committee for Emergency Situations (CES).
“Two Mirzoyev brothers – Fazliddin, 18, and Fakhriddin, 16 - were killed by a mudslide that hit the village of Maydapata in Farkhor district, Khatlon province,” said the source, “To-date, rescuers have found the body of Fazliddin and a search operation for the body of Fakhriddin is going on.”
According to him, the mudslide that hit the village of Shingak in Sughd’s Panjakent district killed 16-year-old Gulsira Khojayeva. The disaster damaged a highway bridge, two footbridges and five kilometers of water supply pipe in Shingak.
Disasters caused by yesterday’s heavy rainfalls also affected some areas in Jirgatol, Panj and Hissar district, the source added.
