DUSHANBE, June 11, 2014, Asia-Plus – Participants of unauthorized picket have thrown stones at the British Embassy in Dushanbe.
An unauthorized picket took place outside the British Embassy in Dushanbe on June 10. Witnesses say the picket was organized by five women, who threw stones at the Embassy. When the Embassy guards tried to prevent the women from throwing stones, four men joined the women, according to witnesses. The men reportedly beat the guards and the women continued throwing stones. Security cameras were broken.
The witnesses say they could not make out what protesters were shouting. According to them, they heard several times the word “Pamir.”
Police officers reportedly came to the Embassy in half an hour and all picketers were detained.
Meanwhile, British Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Robin Ord-Smith, left for Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) yesterday. According to Radio Liberty’s Tajik Service, Ambassador Robin Ord-Smith left for Khorog to get acquainted with the situation in the region in order to make recommendations for British tourists.
