An avalanche has hit six houses in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO). No injured has been reported as all residents have opportunely been evacuated to safe place.
“The avalanche hit six houses in Khorog’s Bizmich neighborhood overnight,” Ms. Niloufar Alamshoyeva, a spokeswoman for the GBAO administration, told Asia-Plus today afternoon.
According to her, no injured was reported as all residents were opportunely evacuated to safe place.
Currently, a special commission is working to assess the actual damage caused by the avalanche to the houses. Local people are clearing houses and roads of snow.
The risk of further avalanches still remains high, Ms. Alamshoyeva noted.
This year’s snowfalls were reportedly Gorno Badakhshan’s heaviest over the past 70 years.
