45 households in the Ishkashim district of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO have been evacuated to safe place due to fluvial flooding caused by the rise in water level in a river.
The Emergencies Committee under the Government of Tajikistan says the fluvial flooding occurred in the village of Zugvon, Zong jamoat on August as the water level rose in the river.
Household plots in Zugvon village have reportedly been flooded significantly.
Fortunately, no injured was reported.
A special commission is currently working in the flooding site to actually assess the damage caused to the households.
Fluvial flooding occurs when waterways such rivers, streams or brooks overflow their banks into surrounding areas. This risk is most likely to occur following periods of intense rainfall and will become more frequent as a result of climate change.
As the Emergencies Committee top manager, Rustam Nazarzoda, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 31, this year, 6,500 people have been evacuated to safe places due natural disasters.
