QURGHON TEPPA, August 25, Asia-Plus  -- Two officers from the police department in Khatlon’s Khuroson district have got jail terms for corruption.

The Khuroson district court last week sentenced Qurbonmurod Nabiyev, a chief inspector for minors affairs within the Khuroson police department, and Rajabali Nazarov, a detective with the Khuroson police department, to four and three years in prison respectively.  The sentence followed their conviction on charges of abuse of power and bribery.  Nazarov was put on probation

According to the Khatlon police directorate, Nabiyev and Nazarov demanded $300 from parents of two detained teenagers for releasing them.

The source at the Khatlon police directorate said that the investigation had established that the officers had used torture and beating to extort a confession from the teenagers.

The corrupt police officers were caught red-handed when they were taking money from the teenagers’ parents.
