KHUJAND, October 23, Asia-Plus -- In January-September 2008, some 2,500 crimes have been registered in the Sughd province, which is 88 cases fewer than in the same period of last year, the Sughd police directorate chief Abdurahim Qahhorov announced at a press conference in Khujand on October 22.
According to him the crime detection rate has increased by 2 percent over the report period.
Over the same nine-month period, 187 unit of firearms, including 4 sub-machine-guns, five pistols, 7 rifles, 171 hunting guns, 3 grenades and 448 bullets of different caliber, have been confiscated from local population. Nine residents of Sughd have been convicted of illegal possession of weapons in January-September this year.
