KULOB, April 21, 2009, Asia-Plus -- Members of the Khovaling district legislature (Majlis) have not given consent to the repeal of inviolability of their colleague Davlatali Abdulov, who is director general of the gold-mining enterprise Darvoz.
The deputy Khatlon prosecutor in charge of the Kulob region, Alfattoh Roziqov, told Asia-Plus today that the Khovaling Majlis yesterday refused the recommendation of the Kulob regional prosecutor’s office to repeal inviolability of Davlatali Abdulov.
As it had been reported earlier, the Kulob regional prosecutor’s office applied to the Khovaling legislature for the repeal of inviolability of its member Davlatali Abdulov on April 8.
According to Roziqov, Abdulov is suspected of having been involved in abusive financial practices. “We have already issued a warrant of arrest for the enterprise’s chief energy engineer Bakhtiyor Sayfuddinovof and the chief accountant with the venture, Saidakram Abdulkhairov, has given a written undertaking not to leave the district,” Roziqov said, noting that criminal proceedings have been instituted under the provisions of Article 245 of Tajikistan’s Penal Code – embezzlement or misappropriation.
Darvoz produces gold from its operation at the Yakhsou deposit, located in the Khatlon province.
Roziqov noted that it had been already fourth application to the legislature over Davlatali Abdulov. “Criminal proceedings against top managers of the JV Darvoz ere instituted in 2004 already,” the prosecutor said.
