KHUJAND, July 18, 2009, Asia-Plus -- A Khujand resident has got a long jail term for drug trafficking.
The Khujand city court sentenced the 42-year-old Rahmonali Yatimov to 15 years in prison on July 16. The sentence followed his conviction on the charge of drug trafficking. Yatimov will serve his sentence in a high-security penal colony.
The Khujand city court judge, Ms. Mavjouda Poulodova, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that Yatimov was detained on January 26 this year while trying to transport narcotics to Uzbekistan via the border crossing “Buston” in Sughd’s Mastchoh district. 12 packages containing 12.227 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from him.
