DUSHANBE, July 25, 2011, Asia-Plus  -- The Islamic Revival Party is making preparations for its next 9th congress that is expected to take lace in Dushanbe on September 24 this year.

According to IRP’s headquarters in Dushanbe, a special working group has been set up to organize the congress.  The IRP deputy chairman Mahmadali Hoit says they plan to invite representatives from local and foreign political parties to attend the congress that will review the results of the work carried out by the party board over the last four years and elect new composition of the party management.

Asked about IRP leader’s recent initiative that one person should be elected as party leader not more than twice in a row, Hoit said that that initiative would also be discussed at the congress.

Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991.  It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999.  Its official newspaper is Najot (Salvation).  According to some sources, IRP now has some 25,000-30,000 members.  It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections.  The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.
