DUSHANBE, November 3, 2011, Asia-Plus -- On the sidelines of the Conference for Security and Cooperation in the Heart of Asia that took lace in Istanbul, Turkey on November 2, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with India’s Minister of External Affairs Sri S.M. Krishna, the Tajik MFA information department reports.
In the course of the talks, the sides discussed a broad range of issues related to state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and India. They, in particular, underlined the significance of implementation of joint energy projects in Tajikistan, the source said.
The two also discussed the current situation in Afghanistan.
On Tajikistan’s cooperation with Afghanistan, Zarifi informed his Indian counterpart of successful implementation of a number of joint infrastructure development support projects, namely the construction of Tajik-Afghan bridges, which are key conduits for commerce and socio-cultural exchange opportunities in the border areas of the two countries.
Educational cooperation and training of personnel were also among major topics of the meeting. India’s external affairs minister reportedly supported Zarifi’s initiative to increase the number of language training and diplomatic courses as well as IT and computer training courses between the foreign ministries of the two countries.
