DUSHANBE, January 21, 2014, Asia-Plus -- Sarfaroz Yunusov, who had previously headed the propaganda and analysis center of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s organization for the northern Sughd province, has been nominated to head PDP’s organization for Sughd.
“PDP’s board met in Dushanbe on January 20 and Sarfaroz Yunusov was nominated to head PDP’s organization for Sughd,” Adham Mirsaidov, the head of the PDP Center for Propaganda and Analysis, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
Yunusov will replace Davronjon Zohidov, who was appointed mayor of the northern city of Isfara in December.
Founded in 1994, the People’s Democratic Party is the largest political party in Tajikistan, boasting more than 237,000 registered members. President Emomali Rahmon is chairman of the party. The PDP now controls more than 60 percent of the seats in parliament. Young people reportedly constitute some 40 percent of the party members.
