President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a series of bilateral meetings on October 9 with the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Turkmenistan, focusing on strengthening regional ties, trade, and cooperation in security and humanitarian spheres.
Talks with Kyrgyz president focus on stability and cooperation
In talks with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, both leaders praised the current level of mutual understanding and friendship between their countries, which has contributed to resolving ongoing issues in bilateral relations, according to the Tajik president’s official website.
Rahmon and Japarov reaffirmed the importance of implementing earlier agreements and fully utilizing the potential of the Intergovernmental Coordination Council and the Trade and Economic Cooperation Council. The talks also highlighted the need to expand cultural and humanitarian exchanges and enhance collaboration within regional and international organizations. Both sides committed to continued joint efforts to maintain regional security and respond to modern threats.
Kazakhstan-Tajikistan ties described as strategic and allied
President Rahmon’s meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev underscored the strategic and allied nature of bilateral relations. Discussions focused on boosting trade and revitalizing the Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation.
Rahmon highlighted the importance of the Treaty on Allied Relations, which opens new avenues for comprehensive partnership. In the first half of 2025, trade turnover between Tajikistan and Kazakhstan reached $670 million, reinforcing Kazakhstan’s position as one of Tajikistan’s leading trade partners.
Both sides expressed interest in further increasing trade volumes, diversifying import-export products, and intensifying cooperation in energy, industry, investment, and the adoption of new, including green, technologies. Cultural and educational cooperation were also among the key topics discussed.
Strengthening ties with Turkmenistan
President Rahmon also met with Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to discuss key issues in bilateral relations as well as broader regional and international developments. Rahmon emphasized the strategic importance of enhancing economic and trade ties with Turkmenistan.
The two leaders voiced their commitment to deepening cooperation in energy, industry, and agriculture, particularly in promising green technology sectors. They also highlighted the importance of establishing joint ventures and expanding the export of industrial and agricultural goods.
Infrastructure development was another focal point, especially in transportation and communications. The two presidents also discussed expanding cultural and humanitarian ties, including organizing cultural days and joint public events.
